Energio is involved in delivering the energy system to the Masala Eco-Smart Village

Emission-free living and mobility are possible with the production of local energy. Innodriver Oy, the project company for the Masala eco-friendly village, has signed a preliminary agreement with Solarigo Systems Oy, Finland’s leading producer of solar power parks, energy company Lumme Energia Oy, Heliostorage Oy, which specializes in seasonal thermal energy storage, and Energio Finland Oy, which implements energy systems.

Distributed local energy production enables emission-free living and mobility. This goal has not yet been achieved anywhere in Finland or in Europe.

The partners in the preliminary agreement want to implement a 3 MW solar park of approximately 6 hectares in the Mustikkarinne Eco-Smart Village® local plan area in Masala, Kirkkonummi, which will produce approximately 2,500 MWh of electrical energy annually. Thermal energy will also be produced and stored in the ground from the roofs of buildings using Heliostorage technology, in the amount of approximately 4,000 MWh. According to the project’s goal, the village will have approximately 300 apartments in wooden single-family houses and 1,000 residents, for whom this emission-free energy will be sufficient for living and moving around. There will also be enough solar electricity to sell for approximately half a year, and electricity will be purchased from the market during the winter. The electrical energy produced will therefore be sufficient for the village’s residential use and the needs of electric cars on an annual basis. 100 electric cars need a total of approximately 230 MWh per year to drive 15,000 km. The village will not run out of electricity.

The Eco-Smart Village® and solar park are located on a single 40-hectare property.
The property enables the use of renewable distributed solar energy for heating and powering residential buildings on an industrial scale in an economically meaningful way. Ecosmart Village® will be built as an energy community, where residents can benefit from renewable solar energy at a low cost and receive the necessary services for their energy use through the community. Ecosmart Village® will become almost energy self-sufficient.

Masala Eco-Smart Village® is located in the Mustikkarinne area, which is currently being planned, approximately 2 kilometers west of the rapidly developing center of Masala. Approximately the same distance to the east is the well-known, comfortable and communal housing area of Sundsberg.

An assessment of the greenhouse emissions and climate impacts of the eco-smart village’s life cycle, i.e. construction, house production, electricity and heat energy, and residents’ movement, has also been completed. It can be accessed via this link in the Issuu service.
