Solar thermal roof integrated into structures
A solar thermal roof integrated into structures means that the entire roof of a building can be built to collect heat. In other words, a solar thermal roof replaces the building's water roof, eliminating the need for a separate felt, sheet metal or brick roof. This can save on construction costs in new projects or enable roof renovation and energy system upgrades in one go.
Finnish innovation
Solar roofs are a Finnish innovation. They are made to measure in Kokkola. The accompanying photo shows solar roof modules being installed at Kaustinen Evangelical College.
Profit even in November
Unlike solar panels, solar collectors can generate revenue even in November. The picture below is of Kaustisilta, where the solar thermal roof produced over 8 hours of heat in mid-November. This heat significantly improved the efficiency of the building's heat pumps and some was even stored.
Peak temperatures already in April
The graph below shows the output of the solar thermal roof at Kaustinen Evangelical College on April 18, 2021. The outside temperature was 14 degrees at the time, but the solar thermal roof produced temperatures of 69 degrees at its best.
The temperature rose above 50 degrees Celsius at around 9:30 AM and remained there until around 6:30 PM.
